Through the greatest good luck I have obtained the perfect Guru, who has given
me God's Name, by which the mind has become tranquil. |1|

The Lord Himself inspires His devotees to worship Him, O my Lord of the
Universe; the Lord fulfills the desires of the minds of His devotees.

The Lord Himself is contained in water and land, O my Master. He is all-pervading and is not far-off.

The Lord Himself beholds all; His immanent Presence is pervading everywhere. |3|

O God, my Lord, within the creatures is the music of the air. As God Himself plays the tune, so does it resound.

Within my mind and body is the great longing for the Lord Master.

The merciful True Guru has shown me the way, and I have obtained God.

There is no happiness in calling the entire wealth one's own,

To have sway over all the ten directions,

One comfort the True Guru has pointed out to me.

In this way celestial bliss is procured, O my brother.

What is the human? What power does he have?

False is all the tumult of riches.

Doer and Prompter of deeds is the Lord.

Of all the comforts this is the true comfort.

By meditating on Lord Gods Name, I, the servant, am saved.

By singing the praises of the Lord my mind has been tranquilised,

And sins of many births are washed off.

All the treasures I have seen within my mind.

Why should I now go searching for them without? |2|

When my Master became merciful,

His slaves service then got accomplished.

His state and worth, God Himself knows.

What can anyone say? How can one say and describe Him?

To whatever God attaches the mortal, to that he gets attached.

Everyone asks for his own advantage. |4|

Everything is Thine. Thou art the Creator.

Thou hast no end, this and that limit.

Bestow this boon on Thy slave Nanak,

As the ship is helpful in the terrible ocean,

As a lamp enlightens the darkness,

As the heat of fire removes the pain of cold,

So through Name's meditation the soul obtains peace. |2|

Thy minds thirst shall be quenched,

That man alone receives the Names medicine,

To whom the Lord Himself mercifully causes it to be given.

He, in whose heart abides the Name of Lord God,

With vast wealth mans mind is not satiated.

That wealth shall perish and those relatives shall become heaps of ashes. |1|

Without God's meditation, I see the mortals lamenting.

The servant carries the bags of money on his head,

But it goes to his master's house, and he receives only pain.

But when he opens his eyes, then he finds that this affair is all in vain. |2|

The farm belongs to the owner, and the watchman gets up and departs when his work is over.

For that field the watchman toils hard,

Similarly, His is the dream, to whom belongs the world empire.

He, who has given wealth, has infused craving for it.

The mammon of many forms, I have seen in many ways.
Мамону различных очертаний я видел много раз.
With my pen I have written ingenious things on paper.
При помощи своей ручки, я писал на бумаге остроумные слова.
I have seen what it is to be a chief, a king, and an emperor,
Я видел, что значит быть шефом, королём и императором,
But they do not satisfy the mind. |1|
Но всё это не удовлетворяет разум.
Show me that comfort, O Saints,
Покажите мне то утешение, О Святые,
By which desires may be quenched and the soul be satiated. |1| «Pause»
Благодаря которому желания будут потушены и моя душа насытится. «Пауза»
I may have wind-fast horses and elephants to ride on,
Я может имею быстрых как ветер лошадей, и слонов, на которых я катаюсь;
Otto of sandal couches, beautiful ladies
Турецкие диваны, обрызганные сандалом; прекрасных красавиц
And actors singing for me at dreams in the arena,
И артистов, поющих для меня во сне на сцене;
In them the mind attains not contentment. |2|
Но благодаря им разум удовлетворения не достигает.
The throne, royal court, ornaments, rugs,
Трон, царский двор, украшения, ковры,
All the fruits, the beautiful gardens,
Все фрукты, прекрасные сады,
Hobby of chase and the kingly entertainments,
Хобби охоты и королевские развлечения,
- The heart becomes not happy by such deceptive efforts. |3|
- Сердце не становится счастливым от таких обманчивых усилий.
In their kindness the Saints have told me of the True One,
По своей доброте Святые рассказали мне об Истинном,
And I have obtained all the comfort and joy.
И я обрёл полный покой и радость.
In the society of Saints, sing the praises of God.
В обществе Святых, пой похвалы Богу.
Says Nanak, through the greatest good fortunes the Lord is found. |4|
Говорит Нанак: «По величайшей удаче мы находим Господа.
He, who possesses the wealth of God's Name, is happy.
Тот, кто владеет богатством Имени Божьего, счастлив.

The mortal deems that the body is his own.
Смертный считает, что тело является его собственным.
Again and again he clings to that.
Снова и снова он цепояется за него.
Children, wife and household - are entanglements.
Дети, жена и домашнее хозяйство – это путы.
The mortal cannot become the slave of the Lord. |1|
Смертный не может стать рабом Господа.
What is that way by which the praises of the omnipresent Lord may be sung?
Каков тот путь, благодаря которому мы можем славославить вездесущего Господа?
What is that intellect by which this mortal may swim across, O mother? |1| «Pause»
Каким является тот интеллект, при помощи которого смертный может переплыть на
другую сторону, О мама? «Пауза»
That, which is for his own good, he thinks is evil.
То, что для него полезно, он считает пагубным.
If anyone tells him the truth, he regards that as poison.
Если кто-то говорит ему правду, он принимает это за яд.
He has known not what is victory, and what is defeat.
Он не познал того, что такое победа, а что – поражение.
This is the way of life of the infidel in this world. |2|
Таков в этом мире путь жизни неверующего.
That, which is deadly poison, the demented man drinks.
То, что является смертельным ядом, безумный человек пьёт.
The Nectar Name, he deems as bitter.
А Нектарное Имя, он считает горьким.
The society of Saints he does not meet.
Он не встречается с обществом Святых.
In the eighty four lacks of existences he wanders through. |3|
Он продолжает скитаться в 8 400 000 существований.
In the one net of mammon the birds are caught.
Птички попадают в одну сеть мамоны.
Immersed in worldly love, they revel there in various ways.
Погружённые в мирскую любовь, они различными путями наслаждаются.
Says Nanak, unto whom the Lord has become merciful,
Говорит Нанак: «Тот, к кому Господь проявляет милосердие,
The perfect Guru has cut the noose of him. |4|13|82|

By Thine grace, O Lord, the way is found.

By Lord's mercy, the Name is meditated upon.

By Lord's mercy, the mortal is released from bonds.
По милосердию Господа, смертный освобождается от оков.
By Thy grace, egotism is dispelled. |1|
По Твоей милости, эготизм рассеивается.
If Thou so appointest me, then do I take to Thine service.
Если Ты так назначаешь, тогда я берусь за Твою службу.
Of my own self, I cannot do anything, O my luminous Lord. |1| «Pause»
Сам собою, я не могу ничего сделать, О мой светящийся Господь. «Пауза»
If it pleases Thee, I sing Thy Gurbani, then.
Если это приносит Тебе удовольствие, тогда я пою Твоё Гурбани.
If it pleases Thee, I tell the truth, then.
Если это приносит Тебе удовольствие, тогда я говорю правду.
If it pleases Thee, True Guru's grace is upon me, then.
Если это приносит Тебе удовольствие, тогда я получаю милость Истинного Гуру.
All the peace is in Thy grace, O my Lord. |2|
Весь покой – в Твоей милости, О мой Господь.
Whatever pleases Thee, that is the pure deed.
Всё то, что приносит Тебе удовольствие – это непорочное действие.
That, which pleases Thee, is the true faith.
То, что приносит Тебе удовольствие – это истинная вера.
The treasure of all the excellences is with Thee.
Сокровище всех превосходств находится с Тобою.
Thou art the Lord. Thy servant makes supplication before Thee. |3|
Ты – Господь. Твой слуга подаёт Тебе прошение.
The mind and body become immaculate through the Lord's love.
Разум и тело становятся непорочными благодаря любви Господа.
All the comforts are obtained in the society of Saints.
Все утешения мы получаем в обществе Святых.
May my soul remain imbued with Thy Name.
Пусть моя душа будет пропитана Твоим Именем.
Nanak deems this as the supreme bliss. |4|14|83|
Нанак считает это наивысшим блаженством.

All other relishes, which thou tasted, O my tongue,

With them thy thirst departs not, even for an instant.

If thou tasted the sweetness of God's Elixir,
Если же ты попробовал бы сладость Божьего Эликсира,
Thou shalt be taken by surprise on tasting it. |1|
Пробуя его, ты получил бы сюрприз.
O my dear tongue, drink thou the Name-Nectar.
О мой дорогой язык, так пей же Имя-Нектар.
Steeped in this savour thou shalt be satiated. |1| «Pause»
Погружаясь в этот вкус, ты будешь насыщен. «Пауза»
O tongue, sing thou the praises of the Lord.
О язык, так пой же похвалы Господу.
Every moment meditate thou on Lord Master's Name.
Каждое мгновение медитируй на Имя Господа Мастера.
Hear not another thing but the Name, and go not anywhere but the Master.
Не слушай ничего другого кроме Имени и никуда не ходи кроме Мастера.
Saints congregation is attained to by the greatest good luck. |2|
По величайшей удаче мы обретаем общество Святого.
O tongue, repeat thou throughout the eight watches,
О язык, так повторяй же, все 24 часа в сутки,
The Name of the supreme Lord, the unfathomable Master.
Имя наивысшего Господа – безмерного Мастера.
Here and hereafter thou shalt ever be happy.
И здесь, и в потустороннем мире ты будешь всегда счастлив.
By chanting God's glories thou shalt become invaluable, O tongue. |3|
Славославя Бога, ты станешь неоценимым, О язык.
For thee the vegetation shall grow green, and the plants shall bear flowers and fruits;
Растительность станет для тебя зелёной, и растения расцветут и принесут плоды;
If steeped in this Elixir, thou shalt never leave it, O tongue.
Если ты погрузишься в этот Эликсир, ты никогда его не оставишь, О язык.
No other sweets and saltish savours, equal it.
Никакие сладкие и солёные вкусы, не могут с ним сравниться.
Says Nanak, the Guru has become my Succour. |4|15|84|

The mind is the mansion, and body - the fence constructed round it.
