Without good actions, emancipation is not obtained.

He performs worship and ablution, and puts sacred mark on his brow.

With his hand he pulls out the knife to get alms. |2|

With mouth's sweet tune he recites the Vedas.

The mortal shirks not from killing the sentient beings. |3|

Nanak has entered the sanctuary of the Lord, the inner-knower,

Imbued with Lord's love, the fear of death no longer haunts.

One, who is attuned to the Lord, does not suffer in pain.

To his serfs the Lord Himself gives assistance.

By falling at the feet of His attendants, I have obtained peace.

When ego is gone, then the man becomes the Lord Himself;

Seek the sanctuary of the Treasure of mercy. |3|

When someone finds the One he has desired,

Then where should he go to look for Him?

He becomes eternal and abides in an abode of peace.

Taking millions of baths and ablutions at holy places,

They, who sing the praises of the World-Cherisher, are all pure.

The merit of performing many revered penances and good deeds,

And has realised the science of Yoga, Divine comprehension and the pleasure of working miracles,

When one is propitiated with the Lord and repeats His Name. |3|

The knowledge of the inaccessible and inimitable God is beyond comprehension.

Nanak utters God's Name and reflects on the same in his mind,

Unto Nanak, the Lord has shown mercy. |4|111|

All the wealth and eight supernatural powers are in the Name's supreme elixir.

The persons, with whom the beautifully haired God is mightily pleased, sing His praises. |4|
Люди, которыми Бог с прекрасные волосами, весьма доволен, поют Ему похвалы.
Thou at my mother, father, son, kinsman, and the support of very life.

In the society of Saints, Nanak meditates on the Lord, and so swims across the world-ocean of poison. |5|1|116|

For Him yearn gods like Brahma and Sanak, and the like.

The yogis, celibates, and men of miracles long for God.

He, who is blessed therewith, chants God's glories. |2|

I seek the shelter of those who forget not God.

Through the greatest good fortune God's Saints are met.

I serve the slave of Lord's slaves, and in many ways I supplicate Him.

Putting on the scale I have weighed all the comforts. Without God's sight they are all deficient. |1|

By the grace of the Saints, I sing the praises of the Ocean of virtue; after countless incarnations, I have been released.

They, whose shackles the True Guru has shattered, enshrine love for Saints guild.

My anxiety is over. The Guru has cut off my fetters. Therefore I have obtained eternal supreme bliss.

Whatever is to be - shall ultimately happen; where can weal and woe be discerned then? |2|

Of the world regions and solar system, the one Lord is the support. By removing the curtain, Guru has shown this to me.

The nine treasures of the Name-wealth are in the one place. To which outside place should one go then? |3|

The same gold is fashioned into various varieties. Similarly from within, Himself alone the Lord has made the Creation of many patterns.

Says Nanak, the Guru dispelled my doubt. Gold ornaments ultimately become gold.

This world is engrossed in wickedness and scepticism. God's divine alone is saved.

He, whom God awakens to drink this essence of His Name, knows the discourse of the ineffable Lord. |2|

Buy only that commodity for which thou hast come. Through Guru's grace, God shall dwell within thy heart.

In thy own home thou shalt, in comfort and ease, obtain Lord's presence, and thou shalt not undergo around again. |3|

O Lord, the knower of hearts and the designer of chances, fulfil Thou my heart's yearning.

I have grown weary of adopting various and many means, but in no way do they leave me.

I have heard one thing, that they are uprooted in the Saints' association. So I have sought their protection. |2|

The Saints have mercifully met me. From them I have obtained satisfaction.
Святые милосердно меня встретили. От них я получил удовлетворение.
The Saints have given me the Name of the fearless Lord, and the Guru's Word I practise. |3|

I have vanquished those great evil-doers and my speech is naturally rendered sweet.

In one person Thou art a scholar and preacher, and in another Thou art a fool.

In one body Thou grabest everything, and in another body Thou acceptest nothing. |2|

What can the poor wooden puppet do? The Play-Master knows everything.
Что может сделать несчастная, деревянная марионетка? Мастер Пьесы знает всё.
As is the dress the Puppeteer clothes the puppet with, so is the part which that puppet plays. |3|
Как Кукольник одевает куклу, такой и является роль, которую эта кукла играет.
The Lord has fashioned various chambers of many descriptions, and Himself is their Guard.
Господь создал разнообразные хоромы множества описаний, и Сам является их
Сторожем.
As is the mansion wherein the Lord places the mortal, in the likewise he abides. What can this poor mortal do? |4|
Каково жилище, в которое Господь поселил смертного, там он и пребывает. Что
может сделать этот жалкий смертный?
He, who has made something and who has created all this contrivance, understands it.

What thou deemest of avail to thee that goes not with thee even an inch.

Naked thou has come and naked shalt thou depart. Thou will go round the circuit
of births and deaths, and become a morsel of Death. |1|
Голым ты пришёл, голый ты и уйдёшь. Ты пойдёшь по кругу рождения и смерти, и

Watching, watching the transitory dramas of the world, thou art embroiled and
enmeshed in them, and thou laughest with delight.

The string of life is wearing off day and night, and thou hast not done anything for thy soul. |2|

Doing worldly deeds thou hast become old like this. Thy speech has failed, and thy body has become weak.

As thou were bewitched by the mammon in thy childhood, from that affection not even a trice has diminished till now. |3|

When the Guru showed me that such is the world, abandoning the place of pride, I entered Thine sanctuary, O Lord, then.

The Saint has shown me the way to the Lord; slave Nanak has implanted in him God's service and praise. |4|6|127|

Since I have effaced my ego, God has made me pure by stilling my doubt and dread.

By seeing Thine sight in the society of Saints, my anxiety of birth and death has ended, O Lord. |3|

I wash the feet and perform the service of the Guru, and hundred thousand times I am a sacrifice unto Him,

O my Master, the giver of peace, the blotless, the cool, Thy Name is the purifier of sinners.

Whatever did please Him that has come to pass; none wise can do anything.

Whom Thou, O Lord, showest Thine sight for the sake of the Saints congregation,

Him Thou mercifully grantest the dust of Saints Feet as well. This is the solace that Nanak craves for. |4|9|130|

I am a sacrifice unto him,

God's serfs, who thirst for His vision, they have come to save the world.

He, who seeks their shelter, is saved and his hopes are realised in the society of Saints. |2|

If I fall at their feet, then alone do I live; I remain happy in the company of God's attendants.

O Lord, be kind to me that my mind may become the dust of Thine devotee's feet. |3|

Empire, youth and age, whatever is seen in this world, all that is wearing off.
Империя, молодость и старость, всё, что видимо в этом мире, изнашивается.
The treasure of Name is ever brand new and immaculate. This wealth of God, Nanak has earned. |4|10|131|

The way of communion with the Lord I have heard from the Guru.

Every moment I make obeisance unto Him who is contained in the nine regions of the earth and this body.
Каждое мгновение я кланяюсь Тому, кто содержится в девяти областях земли, а
также в этом теле.
Guru's Gospel I have made my earrings, and I have enshrined the one formless Lord within my heart. |1|
Евангелие Гуру я сделал своими серёжками, а в своё сердце я поместил

Joining together the five disciples, I have put them under the control of one conscience.
Собрав вместе пятерых учеников, я поместил их под власть единого сознания.
When ten solitarians (five organs of perception and five of action) became obedient, then was I rendered the immaculate yogi. |2|

I have burnt my doubt and with its ashes have I smeared my body. My sect is that I see the Lord as one.
Я сжёг свои сомнения, и этим пеплом я смазал тело. Моей сектой является то, что
я осознаю что есть только один Господь.
That celestial bliss, I have made my band which the Lord had ordained for me on my forehead. |3|
Я сделал своей лентой то небесное блаженство, которое Господь предопределил для

Where there is no fear, there I have established my seat. The Celestial strain is my yogi's horn.

The deliberation over the reality I have made my staff and the love of Name in the mind is my way of life. |4|

By great good fortune such a yogi is met, who can cut off the fetters of mammon.

God's Name is the wealth beyond praise. Let all hearken and remember it, O friends.

The darkness is dispelled from that body, wherein the lamp of Guru's Word is lighted.

His noose of superstition is cut, who reposes faith in the guild of Saints. |1|

Difficult to cross, dreadful word-ocean is ferried by means of the ship of the congregation of Saints.

By meeting the Guru, in love with God, my mind's desire is fulfilled. |2|

The Name treasure, the Saints have gained, and their soul and body are satiated and sated.

Thou art the designer of chances; Thou art everything; Thou art omnipotent. There is no other second beside Thee, O Lord.

Thine state and extent, Thou alone knowest. They alone become Thy serfs, on whose brow good fortune is recorded. |1|

With Thy attendant Thou art imbued, O Lord. Like wasp and woof, Thou art woven with Thine devotees.

They long for Thy darling sweet Name and sight as the red-legged partridge desires to see the moon. |2|

Between the pervading Lord and His Saint there is no difference. There is hardly
one Saint of the Lord amongst several lacks and millions of mortals.

Святого.
He, within whose mind the Lord revealed, night and day sings His praises with his tongue. |3|

My Master, Thou art omnipotent, infinite, the most high, the giver of comfort and the prop of life.

All they, whom Thou mercifully keepest with Thee, go across the world-ocean. |2|

O God's Saint, give me such a treasure which may go with me. |3|

Grant merit unto me, the meritless, that my mind may repeat God's Name.

The Guru has revealed Divine knowledge within my mind, and now there is light and illumination all-round.

By quaffing the Name-Nectar my soul is sated and other fears are stilled. |2|
Благодаря тому, что я, большими глотками, пил Имя-Нектар, моя душа насытилась и
весь страх утих.
Obeying Guru's commands I have obtained all the comforts and shattered the abode of pains.
Повинуясь приказам Гуру, я обрёл полное успокоение и в дребезги разбил жилище
страданий.
When the Lord Master got mightily pleased, He revealed to me everything in the form of Ecstasy. |3|
Когда Господь Мастер был весьма доволен, Он раскрыл для меня всё в виде Экстаза.
Nothing comes and nothing goes. All this play is set going by God, the King.
Ничто не приходит и ничто не уходит. Вся эта пьеса поставлена Богом – Королём.
Says Nanak, inaccessible and inscrutable is the Lord. His devotees have the support only of God's Name. |4|15|136|

The transcendent Lord is the perfect Master; O my soul, hold fast to His protection,
Превосходящий понимание Господь является совершенным Мастером; О моя душа,

Who has established the Universe and continents, O man, repeat the Name of that God. |1| «Pause»
Кто основал Вселенную и материки, О человек, повторяй же Имя Бога. «Пауза»
O God's slaves, abandon the mind's cleverness. By realizing His will, peace is procured.
О Божьи рабы, откажитесь от ухищрений разума. Ясно понимая Его Волю, мы обретаем
покой.
Whatever the Lord does, accept that with pleasure. In weal and woe meditate on that Lord, O man. |1|
Что бы Господь ни делал, принимай это с удовольствием. В благе и печали
медитируй на этого Господа, О человек.
Millions of sinners the Creator emancipates in a moment, and no delay is caused therein.
Творец в мгновение освобождает миллионы грешников, и в этом нет задержки.
Lord, the destroyer of distress and disease of the meek, glorifies him whom He likes. |2|
Господь, уничтожающий страдания и болезни убогих, прославляет того, кого Он
хочет.
The Lord is the mother, father and cherisher of all. He is the Life of all the beings and the Ocean of peace.
Господь является мамой, папой, и покровителем всех. Он – это Жизнь всех существ
и Океан покоя.
By giving, that Creator suffers no deficiency. God, the Mine of jewels, is all-pervading. |3|
Давая, Творец не страдает от недостатка. Бог – Рудник сокровищ, проникает через
всё.
The beggar asks for Thy Name, O Master. That Lord is contained in every heart.
Нищий просит Твоё Имя, О Мастер. Этот Господь содержится в каждом сердце.
Slave Nanak has entered the sanctuary of Him, from whose door none returns empty-handed. |4|16|137|

There is but one God. By the favour of the True Guru, He is obtained.

Never forget the Lord God from thy mind.

Here and hereafter God is the giver of all the comforts and sustains all the hearts. |1| «Pause»
И здесь и в потустороннем мире Бог является дарующим всех удобств и содержит все

The great agonies He removes in an instant if the tongue utters His Name.
Великие агонии Он убирает в мгновение, если язык повторяет Его Имя.
In God's refuge are calmness, peace and comfort, and He extinguished the burning fire. |1|
В Божьем убежище находятся спокойствие, покой и утешение, и Он тушит горящее
пламя.
God saves man from the hellish pit of the womb and takes him across the fearful ocean.
Бог спасает человека от адской ямы матки и переправляет его через ужасный океан.
By dwelling over the Lord's Lotus Feet in his mind, He banishes the fear of Death's courier. |2|
Когда мы фиксируем разум на Лотусовых Ногах Господа, Он убивает нашу боязнь
курьера Смерти.
The Lord is perfect, transcendent, exalted, high, inscrutable, and infinite.
Господь – совершенный, трансцендентальный, благородный, великий, неисповедимый и
несметный.
By eulogising and remembering the Ocean of peace, life is not squandered away in gamble. |3|
Хваля и помня Океан покоя, наша жизнь не растрачивается в азартной игре.
O beneficent to the meritless Lord, my mind is engrossed in lust, wrath, avarice and worldly love.
О благотворительный к недостойным Господь, мой разум поглощён похотью, гневом,
скупостью и мирской любовью.
Show mercy unto Nanak and bless him with Thine Name. He is ever a sacrifice unto Thee. |4|1|138|
Прояви милосердие к Нанаку и благослови его Своим Именем. Он всегда отдаёт себя
Тебе в жертву.

Выйграй для себя неоценимую драгоценность Бога, и живи помня Его – даже если

Children, wealth, spouses, joyful games and pleasures
Дети, богатство, супруги, весёлые игры и удовольствия
Have been left by many people. |1|
Были оставлены многими людьми.
Leaving behind all his horses, elephants and the pomp of empire,
Оставив позади всех своих лошадей, слонов и пышность империи,
The fool departs naked. |2|
Глупец уходит голым.
The body, which felt puffed up with the essence of aloe and sandal-wood,
Тело, чувствовавшее себя пышным от эссенции алоэ и сандалового дерева,
That body shall roll in dust. |3|
Это тело будет валяться в пыли.
Infatuated with worldly love mortal deems God distant.
Увлечённый мирской любовью, смертный считает, что Бог находится вдали.
Says Nanak, but He is ever present near. |4|1|139|

O man, thou shalt swim across with the support of God's Name.
О человек, ты переплывёшь на другую сторону при помощи Имени Божьего.
The Guru is the ship to ferry across the world-ocean, full with the waves of superstition. |1| «Pause»
Гуру – это судно, которое перевезёт тебя через мир-океан, наполненный волнами
суеверия. «Пауза»
In the Iron Age there is pitch darkness.
В этом Железном Веке – кругом полная тьма.
The Guru given lamp of Divine knowledge enlightens it. |1|
Её освещает лампа Небесного знания, которую даёт нам Гуру.
The poison of mammon is very greatly spread.
Яд мамоны простирается очень широко.
Only the virtuous are saved, chanting and meditating on the Lord. |2|
Только добродетельные спасаются, повторяя Имя и медитируя на Господа.
Intoxicated by mammon the man is asleep.
Опьяннённый мамоной, человек спит.
By meeting the Guru, doubt and dread are dispelled. |3|
Встретившись с Гуру, сомнения и страх исчезают.
Says Nanak, meditate on the one Lord;
Говорит Нанак: «Медитируй на единственного Господа;
Behold Him in each and every heart. |4|2|140|
Увидь Его в каждом, и в каждом сердце».

Thou alone art my Chief Advisor.

Taking hold of me, the Guru has employed me as Thy slave. |1|

I have annihilated the five oppressors.

By Guru's grace I have vanquished the army of evil. |2|
По милости Гуру, я преодолел армию дьявола.
I have received the one Name as Lord's bounty.
Как премию, я получил от Господа единственное Имя.
In peace, equipoise and bliss is my abode now. |3|
И теперь я пребываю в покое, равновесии и блаженстве.
